For over four decades, The Prayer Seminar has been equipping churches around the world in the discipline and joy of prayer.

Founded by Dr. J. Gordon Henry in 1984, over the years the ministry has reached more than 46 states in the US and over 63 countries across 5 continents. Adam Nathanson now leads the ministry, building on the foundation laid by our founder and teaching a simple, biblical approach to prayer.

Dr. J. Gordon Henry, Founder of The Prayer Seminar

Dr. J. Gordon Henry

Founder of The Prayer Seminar

"Several decades ago, God gave me a burden for prayer, which led to the development of the Prayer Seminar ministry. Since that time, I have led numerous seminars in many states and nations, with thousands attending. My goal is to help Christians gain insights on prayer that they can benefit from immediately."

Dr. Henry, a native of White Pine, Tennessee, in the foothills of the Smokies, holds a B.A. degree from Berea College (KY), earned an M.A. from Eastern Kentucky University, and a doctorate from the University of Kentucky. He has done graduate work at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Duke University (NC) and Rutgers University (NJ). For many years he served as president at Northeastern Bible College, Essex Fells, New Jersey. Before that, he was Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Liberty Baptist College (now Liberty University), Virginia. He also counts it a privilege to have served as the Executive Director of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools from 1985 - 1995. Since 1995, he has served as an educational consultant to colleges in California, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

What is The Prayer Seminar?

The Prayer Seminar is a five hour event, conducted in two sessions, that can be used with an entire congregation or with smaller groups such as deacons, youth, or leadership. It lends itself well to retreat settings. There are several patterns that can be followed in scheduling to provide for the five hours of teaching time needed.

The basic design of The Prayer Seminar is to provide very practical suggestions that answer "how to" and "how not to" questions—the same pattern Jesus Himself followed in the Sermon on the Mount.

How to...

  • • Establish prayer as a daily priority of highest importance
  • • Organize your praying following a Biblical pattern
  • • Worship, praise, confess, and thank the Lord
  • • Pray for oneself as well as for others

Where it's used

  • • Bible colleges and universities
  • • State-wide retreats
  • • Denominational annual meetings
